About Stronger Together Wellness

Stronger Together Wellness supports stroke survivors and caregivers as they navigate life after the hospital.

Founded by stroke survivor Matt McCoy, STW exists to make sure no one has to figure out recovery alone.

Our Story

Stronger Together Wellness was founded by Matt McCoy, a stroke survivor and certified peer support specialist with more than 14 years of lived experience.

Matt’s journey through stroke recovery is what drives everything behind STW. He knows firsthand how confusing and isolating life can feel after leaving the hospital, and how important it is to have someone who understands walking alongside you.

Through peer support, mentorship, and connection to community resources, Matt works directly with stroke survivors and caregivers to help them navigate recovery, regain independence, and rebuild their lives. His approach is grounded in compassion, shared experience, and the belief that no one should have to figure this out alone.

Outside of his work, Matt enjoys cycling and gardening, both of which have played an important role in his own recovery. He often encourages others to find small, meaningful ways to reconnect with movement, routine, and joy.

Today, Stronger Together Wellness is focused on helping stroke survivors and caregivers across Western North Carolina find support, connection, and hope as they move forward.

Our Mission

We restore hope after stroke by addressing the gaps in recovery by connecting survivors and caregivers through peer mentorship, support, and community.

Why It Matters

Life after stroke can be isolating and confusing. Hospitals focus on the medical side, but survivors and caregivers often leave wondering, “What now?”

We bridge the gap between discharge and real life by offering connection, understanding, and a sense of belonging that can’t be prescribed in a hospital room.

What We Do

We bring people together to move forward, stronger together, through:

  • Peer Mentorship
Survivors helping survivors find their footing again

  • Caregiver Support
Safe spaces for those who care for others to recharge and connect

  • Recovery Navigation
Guidance through resources and next steps after the hospital

  • Community Events
Opportunities to connect, learn, and build community

Our Vision

A world where no stroke survivor or caregiver has to face recovery alone and every person can rediscover purpose, connection, and strength.
